How Much Does a Website Cost in Australia?

In 2026 a small business website in Australia costs about $350 a year if you build it yourself on Wix or Squarespace, $2,500 to $7,000 if a designer builds it once, and $5,000 to $15,000 from an agency. Running it adds $50 to $300 a month. The table below adds each route up over the first year, with our own prices in it.

WHAT MOVES THE PRICE

Five things a quote is really made of

1

How many pages

A five-page site and a fifteen-page site are different jobs. For a service business the count is set by how many services and suburbs deserve their own page. Ask every quote how many pages it covers and what an extra one costs.

2

Who writes the words

Many build quotes assume you supply the copy. Writing is then an extra, and one Australian agency lists it at $150 a page. On a ten-page site that is $1,500 nobody mentioned. Ask whether the copy is included.

3

Booking and payments

Taking bookings can be free or a second subscription. Wix includes it from its Core plan. Squarespace sends you to Acuity Scheduling, from US$16 a month. A custom build may need a plugin or a developer.

4

Who runs it afterwards

A site needs hosting, a domain, security updates and the odd change. The guides put that at $50 to $300 a month for a small business. If nobody is paid to do it, it becomes your Sunday night.

5

Whether anyone finds it

No build price includes being found. Local search work is a separate monthly cost, from about $750 for a starter service to $3,000 for a full one. Google Maps visibility usually moves in 4 to 8 weeks and organic rankings take 3 to 6 months, and no one can guarantee either.

WHAT THE MONEY BUYS

Eleven services on one page became a page for each

Sydney Property Works is a licensed builder in Marrickville. Their old website was a single page listing eleven services, from bathroom renovations to fencing. A customer searching for any one of them landed on a page about all eleven.

The rebuild gave each service its own page, with the licence number on all of them. That is where most of the cost of a service-business site goes: pages that each answer one search, written by someone who asked what the job involves.

It is also why two quotes for "a website" can differ by thousands and both be fair. One is pricing a page. The other is pricing eleven. See the build on our work page.

If you are weighing up doing it yourself, we have compared Wix and Squarespace on Australian prices. The search side is covered under local SEO.

AFFORDABLE WEBSITE DESIGN

What "affordable" buys at each level

1

A website that exists

Design and a contact form. It gives people who already have your name somewhere to check you are real. This is what most affordable website design in Australia delivers, and for a referral-only business it can be enough.

2

A website that can be found

A page per service, the suburbs you work in written into them, and a Google Business Profile that matches. This costs more because it is more pages and more writing. Without it, the site only reaches people who typed your name.

3

A website that takes the job

Online booking or a quote form that lands somewhere you will see it, with every enquiry recorded.

4

When an agency is the right call

Several locations, a brand to build from scratch, or an in-house marketing team that needs a partner. For a single service business it is usually more than the job needs.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Website cost questions, answered

How much does a small business website cost in Australia?

Between about $350 a year and $15,000, depending on who builds it. A DIY builder such as Wix runs about $350 a year. A designer-built site of five to fifteen pages is typically $2,500 to $7,000. An agency build is $5,000 to $15,000. Running costs add $50 to $300 a month.

How much does it cost to run a website each month?

For a small business, $50 to $300 a month covers hosting, the domain, security updates and small changes. Search engine work is separate and costs more: starter local SEO runs $750 to $1,500 a month. A managed plan rolls both into one fee; ours is on the Pricing page.

What hidden costs should I watch for in a website quote?

Four come up most. Copywriting, when the quote assumes you write the pages. Booking, when it needs a second subscription. Hosting and updates after launch. And extra pages, priced one by one. Ask for each in writing before you compare quotes, because they can add thousands to the cheapest one.

Is a cheap website worth it?

It depends on the job you need it to do. If customers already have your name and only need to check you are real, a $350 DIY site does that well. If you need strangers to find you by searching for a service in their suburb, a cheap one-page site will not do it.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

It depends on the provider. Subscription website plans often carry a 12-month minimum, and SEO retainers are commonly sold on 12-month terms. Ours has no minimum term: it runs month to month with 30 days' notice, and your domain, Google profile, content and leads stay yours.
